Why Paul Smith wore a suit during the lockdown

Designer Sir Paul Smith on why he wears a suit even during the lockdown:The essentials“Every man should own a navy suit, a plain white T-shirt, a good shirt, a pair of well-fitted jeans and nice leather shoes. When it comes to a look that is classic, you can’t really go wrong with a well-tailored suit, whether worn with T-shirt and trainers or with a shirt and shoes.”Style advice“Wear what you feel most comfortable in. If you don’t feel comfortable, it shows. I think that’s a big mistake people make when it comes to dressing up.“Throughout the lockdown, I’ve been wearing suits as usual. It is what I’m most comfortable in. I’m a suit and shirt guy, although I sometimes change it up and wear a T-shirt and trainers, especially in summer.”Invest in the best“Investing in your tailoring can make a big difference in your wardrobe. A creaseless suit is ideal. It was especially useful to me when I travelled a huge amount and often went from the airport to a meeting.”Relooking at luxury“I think luxury is an overused word! You can get a luxury loo roll these days, it’s so funny. Luxury is a personal interpretation. It could be a beautifully made jacket, the weight of a fabric or how something makes you feel. Luxury is the idea of something making your life — or your self — feel elevated or happier while wearing it.”Storage basics“When it comes to storing good clothes, use a garment bag in your wardrobe. You don’t want direct sunlight as it will bleach the fibres of the clothes. A garment bag will also protect clothes from moths which can eat holes through any type of wool.” Grooming guide “Brushing my teeth twice daily and combing my hair in the morning.”Style tip“Invest in good suits. They are flattering and constructed to make you look strong and well put together. These days, you get really softly tailored, unstructured suits that you can then wear as separates if you want to dress more casually.”
