What Cong’ Parliament session agenda looks like
New Delhi: Congress is planning to seek detailed discussions on the ongoing tension with China, Covid-19 spread, economic crisis and increasing unemployment in the upcoming Parliament session. The party will also try to rally maximum possible opposition unity on these matters as well as for a “token contest” against the government nominee for the post of the deputy chairman of the Rajya Sabha. These decisions were taken at the party’s parliamentary strategy group meeting on Tuesday.A DMK or Trinamool MP may be fielded as the “joint candidate” of the like-minded parties. The government nominee is expected to sail through because of NDA’s better manoeuvring of the Rajya Sabha floor and YSR Congress, TRS, BJD and AIADMK’s tendency to come to the government’s rescue. However, the Congress meeting has authorised Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ahmed Patel to reach out to the opposition parties.Presided over by party chief Sonia Gandhi, the meeting was attended by change seekers such as Azad, Anand Sharma and Manish Tewari. The meeting didn’t mix party issues with the House agenda.
