Covid cases in India rising rapidly again

After a brief respite, India’s Covid-19 cases are rising rapidly again. Fresh infections now exceed 75,000 a day and the weekly count is more than 500,000 — the highest-ever rise anywhere. New hotspots have added to the case count even as regions that had shown some stability are reporting increases. Daily fatalities are now over 1,000 a day and the trends suggest an impending spike in some states. On the other hand, the mortality rate has been falling and the positivity rate is also trending lower.
