| RBI, FinMin on the same page over
inflation targeting |
|
Delhi : India may have moved
a step closer to adopting the concept of inflation targeting,
with both the Finance Ministry and the Reserve Bank of India
(RBI) coming to “great degree of convergence” on the way
forward.“I am happy that the RBI Governor recently
acknowledged that Government through Parliament will set an
inflation target and leave the regulator to find ways and
means to achieve the target,” Chidambaram said at a press
conference as RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan sat by his side here
on Friday.

| Gold import curbs to
stay |
|
Delhi : Ahead of the bullion
traders’ strike on March 10, Finance Minister P Chidambaram
made it clear that any decision on relaxing import curbs would
be taken only after the final current account deficit (CAD)
number is firmed up. The official CAD number comes usually
after a two-month lag. The number for October-December quarter
was announced on March 5. It is estimated that the final
number for 2013-14 will come out in June. It implies any
decision on relaxing import curbs, such as lowering import
duty or removing the ‘80:20 scheme’ may have to wait.

| Bank stocks rise for fourth straight
day |
|
Maharashtra : Bank stocks
gained for the fourth consecutive day on Friday as positive
macro-economic numbers and hopes of a new, stable government
at the Centre bolstered hopes of better GDP growth in the
coming quarters. The S&P BSE Bankex gained 5.35% on
Friday, emerging the second highest sectoral gainer of the
day. “The market is currently in a risk-on mode, which is why
all sectors and stocks that had been underperforming in the
past 3-6 months have rallied,” said Sonam Udasi, head,
research, IDBI Capital.

| Led by FIIs, D-St marches into
uncharted territories; investor wealth surges by Rs 2.88 lakh
crore |
|
Maharashtra : The euphoria
is spreading. Foreign fund managers continue to pour money as
well-heeled investors strike aggressive derivative deals and
retail investors make a cautious comeback to ride the rally in
the Indian stock market which touched a new high on Friday.
But many of them could lose their shirt if their bets on the
outcome of the forthcoming general election backfire. Investor
wealth has surged by a whopping Rs 2.88 lakh crore in the past
four trading sessions alone.

months |
|
Karnataka : India’s iron ore
exports fell in February to about 889,882 tonnes, a decline of
16.5 per cent year-on-year. Pellet export shipments were
completely absent in February and there was a notable drop in
buying interest from China, which has built up heavy

million tonnes in the year-ago period, showing a decline of
19.3 per cent. Odisha alone exported about eight million

| Gold shoots for fifth straight
week |
|
Delhi : Gold headed for a
fifth straight week of advance despite a fall in intraday
trade on Friday, as fears of an armed conflict in Ukr-aine
enhanced the appeal of safe-haven assets earlier in the week.
Copper, however, hit its meanest since late November on Friday
on poor demand in China, and brent crude, too, fell mainly due
to seasonal factors. Having gained almost 1% on Thursday, spot
gold fell marginally by 0.1% at $1,349.10 an ounce by 1031 GMT
on Friday as physical demand from leading consumer China
dropped at the current elevated level.
